Final artist statement

My web project explores the diverse experiences of festivals, influenced by the effects of different substances. Through a series of icons and symbols, I recreate a personal journey, reflecting the sights, sensations, and emotions encountered under various influences. I wanted to highlight the different experiences of Cocaine, LSD (acid) & MDMA (Pingas/ Molly)

The animated elements (GIFs) emphasize what stood out during these experiences. This includes the warping of faces, the physical tension and anxiety of being caught, and the heightened urgency of certain situations. By incorporating these elements, I aim to expand the experience beyond the surface level and create a deeper connection with the viewer.

A vibrant color palette, varied tempos, and the use of faces and unconventional imagery highlight the multifaceted nature of festival experiences. My goal is not to glorify drug use, but rather to acknowledge its potential to enhance some aspects of the night while also introducing potential drawbacks like anxiety.

The project emphasizes the numerous variables that shape a festival experience. While self-care can't eliminate negative feelings entirely, responsible choices can minimize them. With more time, I would have liked to explore additional factors like the impact of food, conversation, and the inevitable comedown. Furthermore, i struggled a bit using WIX, however despite these limitations, I'm proud of the project and the engaging GIFs I created.

Thank you for the semester, i really liked this class.
